Eye movement is multi-directional but a standard progressive lens is designed to support linear eye movement, which can make it hard for eyes to change focus rapidly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our blue-violet light filtering lenses are safe, they are non-intrusive, they preserve vision – including colour perception – and they allow blue-turquoise light to pass through during the day, helping your circadian rhythm, while filtering out blue-violet light. Generally, glasses that filter blue-violet light have a slightly perceptible residual tint on the lenses, but this is kept to a minimum in our Blue UV™ lenses.

No – our lenses filter out 20-45% of blue-violet light from the 400–455nm range, which is the optimal balance between an efficient level of filtering and an aesthetically pleasing clear lens.

It is physically impossible to filter out 100% of blue-violet light with a clear lens. As a comparison, sunglasses can filter out up to 90% of blue-violet light.

The blue light range is wide (380–500nm). We distinguish between blue-violet (400–455nm) and blue-turquoise (460–500nm) light:

  • Blue-violet light is the light we target with our blue light glasses to keep your eye vision at its best.
  • Blue-turquoise light synchronises bio-rhythms like sleep and wakefulness, so it should be preserved during the day and lowered at night. Our lenses don't target this kind of blue light, so you can keep your body clock ticking happily along.

Anyone who has presbyopia can benefit from Varilux® progressive lenses, including current single vision wearers, bifocal wearers, people using over-the-counter readers and people unhappy with their current progressive lenses.

Most people will enjoy their Varilux® lenses right away, though some people may take a bit longer to become completely comfortable. Let your eye care professional know if your adjustment period is longer than 2 weeks, as a 'fine-tuning' frame adjustment may be all that’s necessary.

Your eye care professional is an excellent source of information on Varilux® lenses and their specific applications to your individual prescription and lifestyle. If you have not done so within the last year, Essilor® recommends having a comprehensive eye exam prior to ordering your new Varilux® lenses.

Eyezen® lenses are available in 2 forms:

  • Eyezen® Start: from 12 years old with low to moderate visual fatigue
  • Eyezen® Boost: from 18 to 39 years old with a high level of visual fatigue or need for extra help with eye focus efforts, especially in near vision. Eyezen® Boost is customised to your level of visual age with extra power.

Ask your eye care professional which design is best for you.

Genuine Eyezen® lenses are available through your eye care professional. Consult with your eye care practitioner if you have any questions about authenticity.

Eyezen® lenses are an everyday pair of new, optimised single vision lenses, enhanced to provide relaxation and relief from eye strain.

Your child should wear Stellest® lenses during all waking hours – at least 12 hours per day, every day.

  • Essilor® Stellest® lenses slow down myopia progression by 67% on average1, compared to single vision lenses, when worn 12 hours a day.
  • The eye growth of 9 out of 10 children wearing Essilor® Stellest® lenses was similar to or slower than non-myopic children4.
  • 2 out of 3 children who wore Stellest® lenses had a stable need for vision correction after the first year4.

The Essilor® Stellest® lens has been designed with an exclusive and pioneering technology called HALT1. The HALT2 technology is made of a constellation of 1,021 invisible3 lenslets. This constellation creates a signal in front of the retina that acts as a shield against eye elongation and, therefore, myopia progression.
